Free Victorian Girl Big Dog Clipart

This lovely old image features a girl with a big dog. As a mastiff and Saint Bernard owner, I love this image. My husband and I have debated what kind of dog it’s supposed to be as it has more the color of a mastiff and the tail and fluffy ears of a Saint. Perhaps it’s supposed to be a mix or what’s called a “fluffy” mastiff–a rare long-hair version of the breed. At any rate, it’s gorgeous with great color and would be great for tags, fabric transfers and numerous other creative projects.

I’m not sure what it was originally–an ad, from a book or magazine, or what. It looks like someone roughly cut it out ages ago, and, very likely, the original owner intended to use it in a Victorian scrapbook, but never did as the back is clean. Oh, if these vintage images could speak. What tales they would tell.

I love thoroughbred horses, so I was excited to acquire this antique equine image recently. It’s hard to believe it’s so old as the style looks modern, but it’s from the turn of the century It’s from Germany. Unfortunately, I have no idea who the artist was, but he or she was very talented.

I’m uploading this graphic today in honor of the Breeder’s Club Classic in Santa Anita, California, an event I’ve been eagerly anticipating.

I hope you find a use for it. It would be great for any project with a country or horse-theme. And it would make such a lovely fabric transfer.

Free Vintage Tiger Lily Flower 2

When I saw this antique image of a tiger lily at an auction, I snatched it up. It’s so lovely, one of the most beautiful Victorian floral images I’ve ever seen. It has special meaning to me as I live in a Victorian house with a tower and ever since my husband and I purchased the property in 1994, bright orange tiger lilies have bloomed around the base of the tower each summer.

I’ve retouched and cut this flower image out for you. It’s on a PNG file with a transparent background. I’m also including a version with a background, which is the color of the original background that I removed, a lovely color combination.

This tiger lily is sure to be great for innumerable designs–fabric blocks, prints, collages, web design, embroidery, print projects, and more. I hope you find it useful.

This is one of my rarest and loveliest Victorian angels. She’s from an 1880s scrapbook and is quite large. She certainly has the grace of a bygone era, and she holds the spirit of Christmas. The candle in her hand is aglow, lending joy and the warmth of the holiday season, and her pale colors conjures images of snow. In fact, the actual angel has a light dusting of glittery snow on her. I’m not sure if she was published with the glitter or the original scrapbook creator added it, but it’s lovely. Too bad that you can only faintly see it in the scanned copy.

I believe she was originally a German die-cut, as she’s very high quality and they made the best, but, since’s glued into the scrap page, it’s impossible to trace her origins.

I hope she’s special to you like she is to me, and that you can use her in your holiday scraps. She would make such a gorgeous addition to so many designs, including tags, scrapbooks, fabric transfers, and more.

She is a PNG file on a transparent background, making it easy to drop her into your designs.

Free Victorian Trade Card Clipart

I’ve always appreciated the artwork in the Hills Brothers trade cards. They often featured lovely Victorian women with gorgeous hats that seemed to exemplify feminine grace and the grace of the era. They were a millinery company from New York, but also had salesrooms in New Orleans, St. Louis, and Paris. And the hats on their ads were illustrations of actual hats they sold. There is a write up on the back of this tradecard about the hat this lovely model wore. It says: “The hat shown upon the other side of this card will be one of the most popular shapes of the season.” At the top, in bold text it hails the World’s Fair in New Orleans, 1885. I can see how these ad cards would have been very effective in gaining them a loyal customer base.

This Hills Brothers illustration is one of my favorites from my collection so I wanted to share it with you. The colors are fabulous. I decided to leave the text on this one as it’s art in itself. I think it would be great for so many types of crafts and design projects. I hope you find a great use for it.

Santa Claus Scrolls Clipart

Free Christmas Clipart

I found this fabulous vintage image at a local antique shop a couple of weeks ago. The Tuck postcard from the 1912 “Santa Claus Scrolls” series was less than $5.00 and was in the junk postcard pile, because it was in bad shape, full of dings, flayed edges, and even holes. Actually, it looked like someone had inflicted the holes with a hand held punch–perhaps a child as it was originally sent from an “Aunt Electra.”

Yet despite its flaws, the beautiful Santa image captivated me and drew on some sentimental Christmas thing deep within. As vintage ephemera goes, the postcard held little collector value due to its condition, but I saw the potential of its artistic value. I love this cheerful Santa, how his arm is full of toys and his hand holds a lamp that emits warm light. I love his position–how he appears to be looking over something below. The message is even nice with lovely text–I often wish that the old text on Victorian ephemera could be turned into fonts.

And after I scanned him in, I was in awe.

I’d recently watched an Emeril video on Youtube about making pancakes. Emeril was “ahhhing” and “ohhhing” as he prepared a batch of light and fluffy pancakes that made my mouth water. I felt the same type of awe when I saw this scan. Santa had scanned in beautifully. I immediately went to work and cleaned him out and cut him out for you. He’s on a PNG file with a transparent background.

The file size was very large, so I optimized it in Photoshop. I’m going to write a tutorial about how I did that.

Anyway, I hope you will find him useful for your craft and other design projects. As for those Emeril buttermilk pancakes, they were fantastic too, the best I’d ever had. Here’s the recipe: Emeril’s Buttermilk Pancakes.
